Hooray for a successful return to the Half Iron-distance! My last half before this one was Wildflower. I am happy to report that I have improved a lot over the past two months. My favourite improvement is probably my attitude - at Wildflower, I went into the race so focussed on my result that I forgot to have fun out there, and in the process fell short of my desired result (which was probably a bit unrealistic in the first place). At PC, my head was in the game. I had a ton of fun out there and at the end of it all finished 1st Amateur and 4th Overall Female. Woohoo! I had a goal time in mind but ...
4th OA female, 1st Amateur, 1/2 IM PR of 5:05:49, report to follow... I had such a fun day!!! Thanks so much for all the well-wishes!
I am so excited for tomorrow's race! I spent pretty much all of today getting ready, which sounds a little like overkill I know but that's what happens when you have a race with 2 transitions that are *quite* far apart plus one girl (me) going the wrong way and doing countless u-turns on minimally marked forest service roads. The joke about "why can't women read maps?" comes to mind - unfortunately I can't really tell you the punch line because it requires a visual ;) ! So the long and the short of it is it took me 5.5 hours to get my race packet, ride for 30 minutes, swim for 12, get a sandwich, and go to Rite ...
Yesterday's drive from Incline to Bend was slightly more eventful than I usually like. Although, it's probably better to have 440 eventful miles in the car alone than 440 sleepy miles! Anyhow the most inauspicious event was when I killed a bird. It was one of those split second things, driving 75 mph on the highway and suddenly this bird pulls a maneuver more typical of a squirrel (you know, the "imrunningintotheroad - nowaitmaybei'llgothatway - ohcrap - BIKE - GAH - changemindgootherway" thing all within .5 seconds and you nearly wipe out because of the scampering rodent) but anyway the bird was not so lucky, it careened into my windshield, I felt so awful! Poor little birdie! I hate that ...
I am heading to Bend this morning, via Starbucks for Free Coffee Wednesdays and Trader Joe's for snacks... Pacific Crest Half is this coming Saturday! Also it might be nice to get out of smokeland here in Tahoe. A lot of smoke from all the California fires has blown up here and it's looking more like downtown L.A. than a pristine mountain lake. So sad! The lake today vs. the lake on a more typical day: And, I even put off yesterday's run to this morning in the hopes of clearer air, but in fact I think it's ...
Despite all my unhappiness about Greg's trip to Tiburon Summer Camp last week, I have actually decided I am glad he went because he came back with a box full of Nutrition53 product for me to try. I had sampled their Neuro1 product before and really liked it, so I was excited to try out their other products and some new flavours as well. They make 3 drinks: Neuro1, a mental energy drink, Lean1, a meal-replacement (or in my case, snack-replacement ;) ) drink, and Sleep1, a natural sleep-aid drink. The Neuro1 drink has caffeine, one serving is the equivalent of 1 cup of coffee, and right now I only ...
This is the slogan of the only reliably tolerable radio station in town, 103.7 the RIVER. It's a classic rock station, not normally what I would choose but pickin's are slim here. And I've actually started to enjoy it... daily doses of "Black Magic Woman", "Somebody to Love", "Ruby Tuesday", and their token Phil Collins song, "In the Air Tonight", which I already loved thanks to Eminem's "Stan" and to an ex-boyfriends dad who would play Phil's concert DVD's full blast while singing along teary-eyed! The funny things to me here are 1. apparently classic rock stations' playlists consist of <500 songs. I spend less than a half hour a day in my car, yet I always hear the same ...
