My watch/heart-rate monitor saga seems to be never ending!!
I have blogged about it several times but just to get everyone up to speed… Over the past 10 months I have gone through ~4 Timex Ironman heart rate monitors, they all had to be warrantied for one reason or another. There is still one outstanding watch on warranty, but it’s been about a month since I sent it in and I haven’t gotten a new one so I think Timex has officially cut me off, at least for that string of watches.
So last month, I decided to pony up the big bucks for a hardy Polar RS100, mostly because Polars are a lot more reliable but also because it has a 2 year warranty rather than the 1 year warranty like Timex.
Sigh.
Then at 5430 on August 10, I won a Timex Ironman watch (not a HRM watch, just the regular kind). Score!, I thought. Now I have a nice little watch to wear when I don’t need the HRM!
Six days later, it broke. I wore it in the pool in Petaluma because their clock situation is pretty lame, I didn’t push any buttons on the watch but nevertheless it took approx. 200 yards for the face to fill up with water and the watch to go blank.
So I sent it in for warranty, and put my bulky-but-sturdy Polar back on.
Now today I see that my Polar has a broken button and the rubber plastic is warping off the head of the watch and it’s doing this random beeping thing. Are you kidding me?!!? I just got off the phone with Polar, of course they said “just send it in for warranty!”
So I own 3 watches and every one of them is out on warranty. I don’t even wear them all the time, and that one day in Petaluma is the only time I have swum wearing a watch.
From now on, I am just making up my own time
.

don’t worry, polar will send that HRM back ASAP…I sent them mine 10 days before IMFL last year and had it back in about 5 days including a weekend! Good luck though!
Watches clearly don’t like you. Maybe you’re too fast?
Though with the RS100 my buttons came off too. They just sent me more buttons but I couldn’t get them back on because i guess you have to take the watch apart? I didn’t want to do that.
Anyway good luck!
Get a Garmin. The 405 is totally awesome. Except for swimming. For that I wear a 1970’s style Casio, which is the best $20 I ever spent.
